Pruning Shrubs During All Seasons

Grooming is not something that you should be doing all the time. If you have shrubs, don’t cut or trim them during every season. One of the common mistakes that people make is in regard to the time frame that they push their trimming process. You should cut your shrubs during the correct time frame, and focus on options away from the bloom season. You also need to make sure that you understand what shrub you have. You need to make sure that you focus on knowing what type of bushes you have, otherwise you will cut them wrong, and that’s not going to be a solid push forward for your landscaping process.

Not Pruning At All 

The next mistake is simple enough to make, neglecting to prune at all. Shrubs grow and grow, and they can end up giving you cover, and privacy. There’s nothing wrong with that. If you want to have a specific, isolated solution, then by all means, leave your shrubs and gardening alone. But beware of this, because if you focus on this, you will end up with a big bit of trouble. You see, when you leave things to just grow and grow, you will have to deal with a lot of problems, including overgrowth, weeds, and more. Plus, you may end up having dead zones in your shrubs, and if left alone, you could very well see problems crop up. Not pruning is a terrible idea, so don’t let yourself forget to prune at least a little. Not pruning at all is one of the easiest and worst mistakes that you can make when dealing with shrubs of various types.

Kill Certain Branching Points 

One of the most important things to avoid when dealing with tree growth is the option of girdling. This is not a friendly thing at all. You want to ensure that you take the label off the trunk of certain trees, including maple trees. Do not let the labeling stay in place, because that could end up killing the trunk and eventually breaking apart the tree’s growth cycle. Now, there’s a certain type of vine that could cause problems, as well. You want to avoid girdling, by cutting out bittersweet vines, and other weeds that could very well choke out your tree. There are some vines that can end up choking the trunk overall, and that could very well cause problems. Weeding early and often and watching out for certain issues will help you garner a bit of a helping hand.

Forgetting About Symmetry 

Whether you are working on the front yard, walking paths, or the backyard, you will want to focus on symmetry. You should make sure that you look into symmetry overall, as that is the most important aspect of your landscaping process. With that in mind, you should always trim, prune, and focus on taking time to look at the symmetry that is left behind with plants and shrubs. Sometimes, one shrub will grow larger then the others, or you will have to offset pruning elements to ensure that you have balance. Take a step back, and watch as things are focused into symmetrical paths. You’re going to find that this takes on a whole new look as you look at things from afar, and then close up. Mismatched elements are easy to implement, so focus on taking time to look at the symmetrical elements of your home.

Putting Too Many Peripheral Elements In Place

What does this mean? Well, for some it’s garden gnomes, for others it’s jockeys, and some just like having art. There’s a term for these things, and often it’s called “tchotchkes”. These are peripheral items that are not necessarily doing anything to help your landscaping, or garden areas, but are just pieces of art that stand alone. They can be made of various materials, but they do not help with the growing, watering, or movement process of anything that you’re doing. It’s something that is just basic, and plain, and somewhat disastrous if you let them fill up your home’s exterior areas.

Cutting Your Grass Too Low

You should never go lower than around 3 inches in terms of mowing your lawn. This is a major problem, because if you “scalp” your grass, you will be too close to the soil, and that could cause burns, brown grass, weeds to rise, and could very well cause a plethora of problems overall. You don’t want to cut your grass too low, simple as that. This is going to cause a great deal of problems, and therefore you should keep things at an ideal height, rather than going too low. If you go to low once, that’s ok, let things grow out, and make sure to adjust your blades accordingly.

Planting Any Plants 

Researching the plants that you want to use most is going to ensure that you are able to get the right fit for your particular needs. Do not just get plants at random and plant them. Focus on a few options and stick to them. Plant things that you research and know are going to thrive in your area, or you could risk prob less down the line. Planting things that you are familiar with is a great option, so avoid just going with “random” plants that are in your budget.
